What plants should we attach on driftwood ?

This post will introduce you the top 5 plants we should add on natural driftwood and bonsai driftwood.

1/ Java Moss

Java moss is a moss belonging to the Hypnaceae family. Native to Southeast Asia, it is commonly used in freshwater aquariums. It attaches to rocks, roots, and driftwood. The identity of this well-known plant is not resolved; formerly thought to be Vesicularia dubyana, it may actually be Taxiphyllum barbieri. It was originally described as Isopterygium barbieri Cardot & Copp. from Vinh, Vietnam.

This is a beginer’s moss and is the best option for an aquarium tank. A lot of people use Java moss to add on a bonsai driftwood to have a very lively planted tank.

2. Java Fern

Microsorum pteropus, commonly known as Java fern after the Indonesian island of Java, can be found in Malaysia, Thailand and some regions of China. It is a highly variable plant with several different geographic varieties that vary in leaf size and shape. Found in its natural habitat growing attached to roots and rocks, it can grow in both fully and partially submerged environs. The plant can propagate through small adventitious plants formed on older leaves, which attach themselves to hard substrates.

This is a low light plant and do not require much maintenance, also a good option.

3/ Anubias

Anubias is a genus of aquatic and semi-aquatic flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to tropical central and western Africa. They primarily grow in rivers and streams, but can also be found in marshes. They are characterized by broad, thick, dark leaves that come in many different forms. The genus was revised in 1979[1] and since then its nomenclature has been stable. Species can be determined by using mostly characteristics of the inflorescence. Because of the often shady places where the plants grow, the genus was named after the Egyptian god Anubis, the god of the afterlife.

It is also a great low light plant. You could choose different types of Anubias for a unique aquarium.

4/Bolbitis

Bolbitis comes from West Africa, a fern with very beautiful transparent green leaves, 15-40 cm tall and wide. When planting do not cover the rhizome because it will rot, and it is best to plant Bolbitis heudelotii on a root or stone. Keep the plant in position with fishing line until it has gained a hold. Easy to propagate by splitting the horizontal rhizome. Growth can be increased considerably by supplying CO2, and is only optimal in soft, slightly acidic water.

It is a good option if you want your aquarium look strange and wildly

5/Hygrophila Pinnatifida

Hygrophila polysperma, commonly known as dwarf hygrophiladwarf hygroMiramar weedIndian swampweed or Indian waterweed, is an aquatic plant in the acanthus family. It is native to Bangladesh, India, China and Malaysia, and has also been introduced to the USstates of Florida, Texas and possibly Virginia. It is listed on the Federal Noxious Weed List in the US and is illegal to import and sell in a number of states including Kansas and South Carolina.

It is a more difficult option but will definely make your tank subtlely beautiful.
